ABOUT
WCIT 2023

The World Congress for Innovation and Technology (WCIT 2023) brings together digital communities and international professionals from science, technology, and the humanities to discuss recent issues and approaches related to the Digital Age.

The 27th WCIT will be the first to be held in Kuching City, the burgeoning capital of the State of Sarawak, Malaysia’s Borneo region. The guiding principle for this tech industry Olympics, over the past 13 years, has been WITSA’s mission of “Fulfilling the Promise of the Digital Age”.  In line with Sarawak’s digital economy blueprint, this year’s congress theme would be;  Innovation and Technology Driving Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusivity and Environmental Sustainability.

WHY ATTEND?

With the emerging new age of digitalisation that actively shapes and influence the everyday development of science and society, the World Innovation, Technology, and Services Alliance (WITSA), continues to stand out for its ability to bring together science, technology and humanities experts from all over the world, to focus on the rise of the machines and information for societal good. It also provides a global perspective on realising the digital age’s potential.

KEY TOPICS

Circular Economy (CE)

A cornerstone for resilient, low-carbon economic recovery in a post-pandemic world, leveraging artificial intelligence, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, and big data. CE elements, such as shared cross-industry backbones, have enabled business ecosystem innovation and differentiation.

Diversity and Inclusivity

Diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion are more important than ever. More views are brought to the tech industry through enhancing the capability, opportunity, and dignity of those who are disadvantaged due to their identity.

5G

Greater bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and faster connections are transforming industries, expanding societies, and significantly improving everyday experiences. Services once thought to be futuristic, such as e-health, networked cars and traffic systems, and advanced mobile cloud gaming, are now readily accessible.

Sustainability

As the world strives toward net-zero carbon targets, corporate attention to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues has almost approached a universal level to preserve natural resources and conserve global ecosystems for the support of current and future health and well-being.

Smart Cities

Cities are utilising technology to anticipate needs, automate processes, and streamline service access. Cities are becoming more livable and responsive as they become smarter; yet, this is only the beginning of what technology may be able to accomplish in cities in the future.

National Digital Policy Agenda

Today, information and knowledge are the primary drivers of change and value creation, making knowledge-based growth critical to Malaysia's development. Malaysia aims to strengthen its position as a regional data hub through the MyDIGITAL framework's Cloud First plan, which includes investment in data centres.
